The Cantonal Committee of Sports and Recreation of Cartago started the construction work of the Polideportivo of Cartago new facilities this week, with the objective of giving a better service to the brumosa (misty) community.

Among the projects that they have are locker rooms, showers, a cafeteria, and a training center. The investments is of around 240 million colones from the revenue flows of the cement tax.

Carlos Arrieta, President of the Board of the Cantonal Committee, thinks that the renovation will benefit the thousands of users that visit the place every day.

«The need emerges since the Board started its term. The cafeteria is very important for the athletes and also the visitors, with the training center what we want is to have a place that works not only for athletes and coaches but also to rent it to private companies and public institutions. The locker rooms are very much needed due to the influx of visitors using the synthetic field, tennis court and the gym» said Arrieta.

The month set for it to be ready is June, so that it can be shown to the Costa Rican Institute of Sports and Recreation (ICODER in Spanish), for the final stage of the National Sport Games 2016 to be celebrated there, with the volleyball, swimming, triathlon, and the mountain and road biking  disciplines.
